That the Senate call upon the government of Canada:

(a) to recognize the genocide of the Pontic Greeks of 1916 to 1923 and to condemn any attempt to deny or distort a historical truth as being anything less than genocide, a crime against humanity; and

(b) to designate May 19th of every year hereafter throughout Canada as a day of remembrance of the over 353,000 Pontic Greeks who were killed or expelled from their homes.

Question Period

Pursuant to the order adopted on November 1, 2018, the Senate proceeded to Question Period.

Pursuant to the order adopted on December 10, 2015, the Honourable  Bill Blair, P.C., M.P., Minister of Border Security and Organized Crime Reduction, entered the Senate and took part in Question Period.

COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE

At 4:19 p.m., pursuant to the order adopted on October 31, 2018, the Senate was resolved into a Committee of the Whole to consider the subject matter of Bill C-76, An Act to amend the Canada Elections Act and other Acts and to make certain consequential amendments, the Honourable Senator Seidman in the Chair.

—In the Committee—

Pursuant to the order adopted on October 31, 2018, Stéphane Perrault, Chief Electoral Officer and Yves Côté, Q.C., Commissioner of Canada Elections, accompanied by Anne Lawson, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer, Regulatory Affairs, and Marc Chénier, General Counsel, were escorted to a seat in the Senate Chamber.

Debate.

It was agreed that the chair report to the Senate that the witnesses had been heard.


The sitting of the Senate resumed.

The Chair of the Committee reported that the Committee had heard the witnesses on the subject matter of Bill C-76 and had directed her to report the same to the Senate.
